Feet and Teeth!

Ashlyn had her first dentist appointment yesterday. She did amazingly well! It was the cutest thing watching her lay there and get her teeth cleaned. It cracked me up at how quickly her appointment went. I guess I wasn't thinking it would only take half the time it takes me since she only has half the teeth. I couldn't be any happier with her dentist! You can tell he is a man that genuinely loves kids and loves his job, he is such a kind and gentle person. If any of you Northwest Arkansas mommies are looking for a dentist, Dr Caple is the only option in my book.

Ashlyn also saw the Orthopedist this week about her feet/ankles. He said that her flat feet are severe enough that he wants her to wear orthotic shoe inserts. This will help prevent leg, knee, and back problems as she grows and develops. He asked if any family members had foot problems and I said no and that her Dad actually had really high arches. He asked me to take off my shoes and socks so he could peek at my feet and sure enough I am slightly flat footed. He said my flat feet are "flexible" and not as severe so when I sit my arches curve up but when I stand they lay flatter than the average person. I would have never guessed! So, we have to go to Fayetteville next week to be fitted for her orthotics. Her doctor also explained that most insurances don't recognize flat feet as an actual diagnosis so they won't help pay for any of her couple... hundred... dollar... custom made inserts. And of course they have to be replaced yearly as she grows. Ouch!! He also wants her to stay in shoes during the day. I just about busted out laughing!! As soon as we come home Ashlyn's shoes and socks fly off. I can't even get the girl to wear slippers in the dead of winter to keep her feet warm! I haven't decided on my approach to this yet- bribery, goddy character shoes for "in the house use only" that she is always begging for at the shoe store, or just plain because I'm the mommy and I said so tactic.

I just had to share this picture. It's not the best picture and it doesn't seem to have any significance at first but if you look you can see how much the girls love each other. Ashlyn got some markers and a coloring book from one of her friends for her birthday and she insisted on coloring by Aubrey in the living room. Aubrey is straining as far as she can so she can watch Ashlyn. Aubrey loves to watch Ashlyn and is always grabbing for her clothes and hair when she is within arms length, which doesn't always sit well with Ashlyn. Ha!

We had to look at your blog today because Madelyn wanted to see pictures of "Ashin" and "Ahby". Good luck getting Ashlyn to wear her shoes inside. Let me know how that one works. :)
