4th of July

We had a wonderful 4th of July weekend! It was so nice to have Phillip home for a long weekend. He has been so busy with work and other commitments so it was nice to have several days to do what we wanted.

Saturday evening we were invited to a cook out by some friends from church. We had a great time getting to know some new people from church. Ashlyn was the only girl there but had a blast playing with all the boys. One of the boys is in her Sunday School class so they tagged along together most of the evening.

Sunday after church we relaxed at home for a bit before heading over to the Ames' house along with two other couples from church. We had such a great time! Those girls make me laugh so hard my stomach aches!! There were six kids there and they were all in the same age range, it was perfect.

Drew and Logan were a hoot! I am used to sweet dainty girls and these two were anything but dainty, but they were sweet. They were in the backyard playing as everyone was arriving and getting settled, I looked out the window and they were doing kung-fu moves on each other. I almost gasped "someone needs to break up that fight", then I realized they were acting like BOYS! Oh my word, that would make me a nervous wreck! Ha!!

Sweet Kennedy and Aubrey playing with a purse. No kung-fu moves here.

One pretty girl loved the fireworks...

The other, not so much...

After two late nights out we were grateful for a lazy day at home Monday. Phillip smoked ribs and a pork shoulder. He always does an awesome job grilling and smoking! I love it because we put the pulled pork in the freezer so I can just pull some out and make sandwiches on a busy day. At one point Ashlyn went out with Phillip while he was adding more coals to the smoker. There was a small piece of hot coal that had fallen on the ground and Ashlyn thought it was a rock. Before Phillip could get the words out of his mouth she picked it up and burned her index finger and thumb. Poor girl still has a blister on her thumb!

I am so grateful for the freedom I enjoy on a daily basis. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all that sacrifice their lives for our freedom!
